Oyster Beds in Le Canon, France

Oyster Beds in Le Canon, France
30" x 40" oil on stretched canvas

Sitting on the veranda facing this beautiful vista and its changing sunrises and sunsets is what we do when we visit Le Canon at the Gilchrist home of Patrick and Florence, parents of our close friends Seamus and Mia.

This is a painting of oyster beds in the Bassein de Archechon in the northwestern shore of France near Cap Ferret, an hour north of Bordeaux. It is also where Monet and other impressionists painted because of its beauty.

The house looks out at this vast water basin full of oyster beds. The raw oysters in all the areas of these waters are so fresh and delicious. We eat them at the little restaurant houses owned by the French oyster fishermen and enjoy the beautiful waterfront view and the changing sunsets.

This painting is sold, but an 8" x 10" print is available for $75 plus s/h.

A few years ago I was fortunate to travel to China with my husband and 8 other friends. In one city we watched the Key to the City ceremony from which this painting recently evolved. The costumes of the dancers were wonderful and this dancer inspired me to paint this watercolor.

Into the Depths

Into the Depths
30" x 40" acrylic on stretched canvas
This is one of my larger abstract paintings using line and shapes fashioned after one of my favorite abstract painters, Kandinsky. He wrote an entire book on the use of dots, lines and color and I tried to use some of his theories in this painting. It has black painted sides with 1 1/2" thickness and can be hung without a frame.
I tried to use a push/pull motif; is the orange circle behind or in front of the green rectangle? You figure it out.
If you would like to purchase this painting, please email me. It is priced at $1200 plus s/h.
An 8" x 10" print is available for $25 plus s/h.

Ebbtide Abstract

Ebbtide Abstract
12" x 16" acrylic on stretched canvas
This abstract began as an unplanned application of acrylic colors and evolved into a painting resembling the ebbing tide on a coastline. However, I retained the abstraction rather than bring it to realism retaining the large shapes of varied colors fusing together.
If you would like to purchase this painting, please email me. This abstract is framed in a floater frame and is priced at $400 plus s/h. An 8" x 10" print is available for $25 plus s/h.

Blue Rhapsody

Blue Rhapsody

Peony in the Light

Peony in the Light
18" x 24" mixed media on stretched canvas framed
I love peonies and decided to do an expressionistic painting of a varied-colored peony bouquet. I randomly put colors in the background and finished by putting a few details in the peonies, but I didn't want this to be as realistic as some other work I've done. The background and vase are left undetailed also. I like the contrast of the red against the white flowers.
If you would like to purchase this painting, please email me. This painting, framed in a gold, plein aire frame is priced at $900 plus s/h.
An 8" x 10" print is available for $25 plus s/h.

Night Scene

Night Scene
8" x 10" Oil Pastel
This is a picture of an oil pastel I did from a scene across the street from where I live. The light on the house, my tree and snow on the two front lawns attracted me to render it quickly from my window. At this point in the photo, it was still taped onto my support.
Later, matted and framed, this pastel won an Honorable Mention in a local gallery show to my surprise and of course excitement.
This painting is SOLD.

Hiking Through Valley Forge at Dusk

Hiking Through Valley Forge at Dusk
12" x 16" pastel framed

On Christmas Day, my husband, Don, two of my sons, Paul and Louis, and I hiked through the historic Valley Forge at dusk when the skies were so blue and the ground so orange. The complementary colors of that particular day inspired me to do this pastel of the colorful scene.
Our family is so fortunate to have this beautiful, vast, historic Valley Forge park so near and available to us for hiking and biking which we do often as a favily all year round.
If you ever are in the vicinity of Philadelphia, you will have an opportunity to visit Valley Forge and experience its history and beauty.

This pastel painting is SOLD.

Homage to Cezanne Still Life

Homage to Cezanne Still Life
16" x 20" watercolor framed
I admire Cezanne's paintings and even traveled to Aix-en-Provence to see his originals in the museum there. So when setting up this still life I thought of the many wonderful paintings Cezanne produced in his studio which still has some of the vases and objects he painted. We even walked up the steep hill from his studio to the park dedicated to him which overlooks Mt. Victoire the famous mountain he painted. The park has many images of his landscapes of this famous mountain. It is worth a visit since it was a popular spot Cezanne painted from in his day.
If you would like to purchase this watercolor, please email me. It is framed priced at $250 plus s/h. An 8" x 10" print is available for $25 plus s/h.

Red Vase Floral

Red Vase Floral
20" x 10" pastel on paper
Whispy flowers displayed in a red vase created this still life which I attempted to capture in colorful pastels. I'm visiting my friend Pat in DelRay Beach, Florida now and attended the Boca Art Fest yesterday. The paintings were fantastic and it's always humbling to see such talented artists from Florida and other areas. But it also is motivational and has spurred me on to continue painting every day.

White Hydrangea Still Life
