Whispy flowers displayed in a red vase created this still life which I attempted to capture in colorful pastels. I'm visiting my friend Pat in DelRay Beach, Florida now and attended the Boca Art Fest yesterday. Next to sunflowers, hydrangeas are my favorite flowers to paint. This little white hydrangea is filled with other colors in a vivid green pitcher. I thought the orange/red background would complement the greens of the fruit and pitcher.

This painting was my experimentation with gouache, an opaque watercolor medium. I found it a bit difficult to get darker colors, but it is probably due to my inexperience witht the medium. I do like the opaque look of gouache and intend to do more paintings with it.
